Making energy a breeze

Wind turbines on Pampus.

Pampus is a small, lonely island east of Amsterdam. Recently, a fresh breeze has been blowing, as the tiny island has been equipped with wind turbines by the company Rengineers . The turbines support a completely autonomous and fossil-free power supply for the UNESCO world heritage site. Weidmüller products are an important part of that mission.

Ready for the island!

Dutch firm Rengineers provides the installation, maintenance and monitoring for renewable energy systems. When the island of Pampus, originally used for military purposes, was renovated, it was time for a forward-thinking overhaul of the power supply: the company launched operation of a wind turbine system here.

Web-based control.

There are now wind turbines on the island of Pampus.

Rengineers uses our u-control modular controller in their onshore wind turbines. The company chose PROCON-WEB as the HMI solution. The biggest advantage is the web capability of the software,

which allows operating data to be read online at any time. This means Rengineers technicians do not need to make a special trip to the island to complete maintenance work. This saves time, costs and resources.

u-OS serves as the heart of the system.

Along with u-OS, Rengineers is also using our new Edge operating system, which is also web-based. u-OS is built on open-source technologies. This means it also supports Native Codesys and greatly simplifies programming.

Each individual wind turbine uses three different protocols, for example. Normally, combining them would result in the need for complex programming. Thanks to u-OS, however, the process is now streamlined. An open, flexible and independent solution – a breath of fresh air for the future of Industrial IoT and automation.
